DRAFT LETTER TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE
Our letter of October 25,
1955, advised
you of our inten-
tion to seek Presidential approval for Operation REDWING, the
series of atomic tests to be conducted at the Pacific Proving
Ground, commencing about May 1, 1955.
As you know, the Presi-
dent has recently authorized the announcement of these tests.
In the near future,
therefore, we intend to request Presidential
authority to expend the required nuclear materials.
