PLSP SUBJECT: Status Report, . Cleanup of Bikini Atoll (U) ‘ 6 AUG TWby 5. Based on existing cleanup understandings it is expected that the AEC-DOD phase of the cleanup work will be completed in early Sept~ ember and withdrawal of the Task Group will be completed prior to 1 October 1969, Roll-up planning has been initiated with CINCPACFLT and COMSERVPAC to arrange for tow and cargo lift of equipment back to Hawaii, Johnston Island and other points, Plans are also being made with the TTG to facilitate arrival of their personnel at Bikint during the roll-up phase, At the request of the Department of Interior detailed plans are being completed for transfer of certain AEC-DOD consumable/expendable equipment now at Bikini to the Trust Territory Government, In general, this equipment falls into the category of not being economically feasible to return to normal bases and restore to proper condition when packing, shipping and repair costs are considered, This equipment will be of considerable assistance to the TTG in their phase of the resettlement program, 6, Separate correspondence, as may be necessary, will be initiated with appropriate agencies to continue orderly planning for phase-out of the AEC-DOD program at Bikini. ‘) } 4 ( Wl AAA ag} t..
