MeCone advised the Secretary of
Defense of AEC's intention to place the EPG in a carataker
status and. asked whether the DOD would be interested in obtaining the:facility and equipment for its use, with inter, agency,transfer to be made on a non-reimbursable basis, On
May 16; the Secretary of Defense replied that DOD has a .
< vequivement. for the area as an addition to ite Pacific Missile
! Range and that ALO would be contacted in the near future to
make arrangements for the transfer “which we hope can be
effective on July 1, 1960."3 uo
In .an ‘effort: to’ effect the transfer as quickly as possible,
preliminary meetings were held on May 23 and 24, at Albuquerque
and Los Angeles, with representatives from ARC and Holmes and
Narver in attendance.: Another meeting is scheduled for May 25,
1960 at. the Pacific Missile Range Headquarters, Point Mugu,
