Dear Mr. Stanley:
The Marshall Islands Legislative has yet to enact legislation for
conservation or any Ecology measures.
There has been considerable reliance on Congress of Micronesia
legislation in this area. It was not until recent years that this
area has become a problem.
If any local legislation is passed this session, I will notify you.
During the 1975 session of the Congress of Micronesia,"An Endangered Species
Act" was pasesed.. This is contained in 45 T.T. C. Chapter 5. Since you
are only inquiring about Marshall Islands Legislation, I presume you have
copies available on Trust Territory wide status. I believe there is also
a current bill pending this session on the harvesting of torchus.
As for regulations, I am not aware of any local (Marshall Islands)
regulations protecting any plant or animal life.
