SECTION i
DECONTAMINATION OF PERSONNEL
Background
The pfincipal purposes for decontaminating personnel are to reduce
The discussion on beta doses in Section IT is applicable here.
In addition, there is much unknown about monitoring methods for personnel contamination.
The following criteria were previously developed on the basis
of measuring the gamma radiations (and then extrapolating to the accompanying
beta radiations) with existing instruments.
Recently new field instruments
have been developed for direct beta measurement, but there remains considerably more work necessary to calibrate them in terms of beta dose rates to
the body.
Umtil this is accomplished, the past criteria may be used.
