Q.

Summarize the follow-up being done for natives of Rongelap
and Utirik along the lines of the Committee's questions.
Compensation has been arranged for certain inhabitants of the

Marshal? Islands through the following two bills, copies of

which are attached:

1. Public Law 88.485, [H.R. 1988], August 22, 1964, authorized
payment by the Secretary of the Interior of $950,000 less legal

fees for legal services to the 82 inhabitants of Rongelap, or
to their survivors, affected by radiation exposure sustained
following the thermonuclear detonation of March 1, 1954. Each

exposed individual or his heirs received approximately $11,000

as a Jump sum.

The people of Utirik received no compensation u
