INFORMATION ON RADIONUCLIDE CONTENT OF AIR AND GROUND WATER AT
ENIWETOK ATOLL

The recent review last month of progress in analysis of samples
from Eniwetok Atoll indicated there may not be sufficient information
to answer all questions regarding levels of radioactivity in air and
in ground water.
Ideally, air filter sample data should be available for all seasons
and weather conditions. The recent survey obtained only a few days
of data. Obviously, needed information can only be obtained by an
extended sampling period covering many months.
The Eniwetok representatives have indicated that the six “big islands"
are pussivie oiies (LoL irfesi water weiis for arinking purposes. Tn-

formation will be needed for all islands where there is even a remote chance of use of ground water by returning natives.
Ground water

samples should be analyzed for all key radionuclides including tritium.

In our telephone conversation Monday, June 4, you indicated there may
be possibilities for obtaining needed samples when the status of the
PACE project is settled. We will appreciate your assistance in filling
this gap in the survey data.
