commented that in preparing these quarterly reports 1t was
important not to assume that the readers would have highly
specialized or technical famillarity with the atomic energy
program. ir. Strauss suggested that future reports might
well indicate the parts of the program with which the Commisglon was not fully satisfied and which represented unsolved problems under attack.
Strauss would be appropriate not only in future quarterly
progress reports but parhaps also in the semiannual reports
to Conzress. Mr. Strauss proposed that in fubure reports
the charts showing productios rales might advantageously be
projected back to 1946 or -:ven 1945 to provide a better
basis Lor evaluation of the prozress of the atomic energy
progran. Mr. Lilienthal said that it would be helpful to
have She statisties for the 1945=19)6 veriod assembled and
brought up for Commission consideration in advance of the
next quarterly report.
"After further discussion ani cevision, the Commission:
APPROVED, as revised in accordance with the discussion
at the meeting, the Quarterly Proyress sxeport to the
Joint Committee (AEC 129/3) and Foreword (ANC 129/))
for transmittal to the Joint Committee without further
reference to the Commission.
