As suggested in your letter of January 27th, we are requcsting that the first penerator, on arrival at Hawaii February 27th, contain 10 mCi. (This would mean that on February 24th, the generator would be a 20 mCi one.) The second generator would contain 5 mCi on arrival at Hawaii March 19th. We have calculated that these amounts should provide us with the necessary 1327, As you suggested, we will use the 0.01 M sodium thiosulfate in 0.01 M ammonium hydroxide. | Mr. Powell Richards of our laboratory called you some time ago with regard to standardization and it appears that we will have to use the decay factor. He indicated that the average recovery factor would possibly average around 60 percent of the calculated amount. Without any reference standard, this seems to be the only method that we can use to calculate a “ballpark" dose. Should you have any standards available that would be helpful such as 1 Cs, please let me know. We will carry along a 131; simulator for instrument calibration purposes. If you have any further suggestions, please let me know. I will appreciate your handling this shipment expeditiously and I will make the necessary arrangements with the AEC at Honolulu to receive these shipments and transship them to me.
