LEMORANDUM to the Files, kedical Section.
1. In compliance with orders fromthe Commander of Task Force One
(Crossroads), a group of approximately 30-40 officers will be organized.
for training in medical safety ami radiation monitoring. This group,
under the comand of Colonel S. L. Varren, will be composed of eight (§)
medical officers attached to the Manhattan Engineer District from the
U.S. Navy; two (2) medical officers attached
(unassigned) to the Man-
hattan Engineer District from the Army 4ir Forces; two (2) medical officers atiached to the Lanhattan zngineer District from the U.S. Fublic
Health Service and nineteen (19) medical ofiicers assisned to the Lan=
hatten District from the U.S. Army.

4. 4A short intensive training program in damage control aboard
ship will be given the group in Philadelphia by naval officers. This
will also include an inspection of the German cruiser Frinz Eugen at
the Fhiladelpnia Navy Yard. Particular attention will be paid to
safety measures in control of gases aboard ship.
5. For the above training (paragraphs 3 & kh) the entire group wALL,
