The TIPI data recording system ‘does not currently have the capability of recording contributing causes of death. The eleven deaths annually directly attributed to diabetes yields a mortality rate of 10.6 deaths per 100,000 population. This rate would probably increase substantially if secondary or contributing causes were retrievable. NATIONAL GOAL MAINTAIN ACCEPTABLE LEVELS OF PREVALENCE OF CHRONIC AND HANDICAPPING DISEASES. OBJECTIVE BY 1983, THE MORTALITY RATE FOR DISEASE OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM WILL BE REDUCED TO LESS THAN 20 DEATHS PER 700,000 POPULATION. OBJECTIVE BY 1983, THE MORTALITY RATE FOR DIABETES AS A DIRECT OR CONTRIBUTING CAUSE OF DEATH WILL NOT EXCEED 8 PER 100,000 POPULATION.
