~s4> 4A, Distribution of the Elderly: Figure 1V~3e shows growth trends and projections for the elderly (55 years and older) in each of the four geographical sub-divisions of Micronesia. The district centers should continue to lead the TIPI in terms of both rates of growth.and total numbers, with the intermediate areas second. The elderly population is expected to grow faster in the sub- district centers than in the outer islands, but in terms of total numbers the outer tslands will] continue to lead the sub-district centers. By 1982, one-half of all elderly persons are expected to be living in the district centers. However, they wil] constitute only 7.2 percent of the entire dis- trict center population, while in the outer islands they are expected to constitute 11.9 percent of the total population.
