LAND PLANTS - Rongelap,

Eniaetok and Kabelle Islands.

A.

Resampling of plants previously collected at all plots.

B.

Special collections for radiochemical analysis - large

samples (several pounds dry weight) of each of the following
will be obtained from Rongelap Island if possible.
These samples
will be dried, geound and mixed so that aliquots can be taken for

cross checks by other laboratories if there is the opportunity to
do so.

Coconut meat

Tacca - washed unpeeled tubers (these should be near
peak for harvesting in March.

Pandanus fruit

Papaya fruit - peeled, without seeds.

(Young trees

were beginning to bear in August 1958 and a limited

number of fruit should be available in March).
FISH - Rongelap Island only.
A.
Liver and muscle from tuna,
caught by trolling.

carangids and other fish

B.
Reef fish collections will be limited to two to four
families with contrasting food habits (probably surgeon fish

and goatfish).

The emphasis will be placed on differences

which may be dependent on habit or age within a species.

INVERTEBRATES
A.

Coconut Crabs will be collected at Kabelle Island only

(they are becoming scarce at Rongelap and Eniaetok but will be

collected there next summer if possible).

Clams will be collected at Rongelap or nearby islands

Sea cucumbers will be collected at Rongelap,
and Kabelle Islands
