Tna atrophy of the lymphatic systea may have beon due to radiation

sictness end wo plen to study this mitter very carcfully.

aAlthoush we

have cxanined only the lymph nodes of the mosentery, the neck, and the
armpit, wo found that in the mesentory the lymphatie sinus was considercbly expanded and the endothelial cells wore prominently proliferated;

nobilization was observed, Proliferated endothelial cells wore goraan~
diging the nuclei in which red and wnite corpuscles had bean destroyed.
Owing to proliferaticn, tho original ly-phatie tissue was rather

atrophied, resulting in a strveture in which the cortex was difficult

to distinguish and the ecnter +23 hrrdly visible. The lymph nxies of
tha arnspit were rother atropnic and the certex contained glassy deposits. Tre lymph nodes of the neck showed atrophy, endothelial
deseneration, and developzent of polynuclear giant cells, It wes very
difficult to prasp the nesning of these findings; but I shall study
them further,
The testicles apposred sonewhat atropiied to the naked eye. Histo~
lorically spoaking, sperz2togonia were scarcely in evidence and mature
spermatozoa were not seen. Tons besal mexbrane of the sperczatic
tubules g2i3 prominently swollen. On tha other hand Sertolifs cells
and Leydig's eclls were observed vwithout difficulty. Deseneration in
the testes, tostther idth henstopoletic dyufimetion, {5 very highly

Thus far, I have discussed the pathological changes in Ir.

c2s0; now let ns susmarice,

First of all, the changes arocaused by

rediation sickness. I believe they occurred in two ways: fren cx=
ternal radiation and from internal radiations. One would suppose that

ths degeneration fron beta radiation bums would appear in the ecto~

derzal skin or the nesoderaal or scsenchyme organs and tissues, Sut

eersp the chanicteristie morphological chances seen in radiation
