Since it was deter-

mined that the entire company could not consist of personnel who
would remain with the task group for the desired timc, an order of
priority oS training was established.

It was decided that the train-

ing of personnel for crew-served wotpens would be the most difficult,
since the firing of these weapons during the operational period would
not be feasible because of the crowded conditions which would be prevelant during this pcriod,

Therefore, personnel for ercw-served

weapons tcams were given first consideration insofcr. as time remaining

with the task group waa concerned,

Personnel who were to remain with

the task group for the desired period were assigned as members of the

= Individual combat training

Phase III - Squad tactical training

on these weapons. When tho troops were considered ready for qualifi-

cation firing, however, difficulties were cncountered.

The only

ranges presant on ENTVETOK ISLAND were a rifle range and a pistol
range.

Theo problem wes overcome by constructing a tcmporayy 1000 inch

range for the firing of mchino guns and Browning Automatic Rifles;
