Her cardiovascular/renal disease was not considered sufficiently advanced to preclude surgery and she was discharged June 10th,1973, and taken to Cleveland. Just prior to discharge, she was given 25 wCi of 131Z to ensure complete removal of the thyroid at surgery and for study of activity of thyroid tissues removed. thyroid surgery on June llth. At the Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital, Dr. Brown Dobyns performed A 1.5 cm nodule was removed from the right lobe and a right lobectomy was performed. The pathological diagnosis was “thyroid adenomata".She withstood surgery well, with no complications. Post-operative convalescence was uneventful and she was discharged June 18th for return to the Marshall Islands. The hospital summary and pathological reports from the Cleveland Hospital are inserted in her BNL record. FINAL DIAGNOSIS: Thyroid adenomata, Hypertension. Reduced kidney function, secondary to hypertension. DISCHARGE MEDICATION: In view of her low thyroid reserve and right lobectomy performed, supplementary thyroxin treatment was considered but, in view of her hypertension and age, it was considered better to observe her and see if supplemental therapy was necessary.
