resourcesof the governmentwas thereforeundertakenin orderto procure
informationthatwould assistthe J-2 staff in keepingthe Ccmumnderof
the Joint Task Forceappropriatelyinformed.
Of not lesserimportancewas the preparationof a comprehensive
counterintelligence
plan (embracingall elementsof physical,personnel
and informationsecuritycontrol)designedto screenthe operationfrom
hostilepenetrationor infiltrationby forcesintenton espionage,sabotage or the outrightseizu~ of fissionablematefialand its related
equipment.
The preparationof theseplans receivedthe early consideration
of
the JointProof Test Committee,whose recommendations
relativeto the
overallmissionof the Task Force and its initialorganization
were approved
by the JointChiefsof Staff on 18 October1947. For example,certainof
the specificJ-2 objectivesassignedthereinwere as follows:
