CHAPTER 1 - GENERAL OGDEN CALLED TO WASHINGTONSERsibs
The 24 ESB was first brought into Operation "Sandstone" by a
telephone call from Colonel a CE, from the office of Lt.
General QM, Washington, D. C., on 9 October 1947. General Qi was
instructed to bring with him to Washington a small planning staff to
attend a conference with General Gi on or about 15 October 1947.
General Qe chose to accompany him, Lt. Col. Qa, Rezimental Commander, 532d Engineer Boat & Shore Regiment and Major“Qiii>
GEM S-3, 532d EB & SR.
General Qj and his planning staff arrived at the Pentagon,
Wednesday afternoon, 15 October 1947, and reported to General SB,
Joint Task Force Seven Commander, and General QA, Chief of
Staff of the Joint Task Force.
General @jipwas then informed that
the 2d ESB would be assigned to an engineer construction project in
the Pacific theater,
It was decided that the 2d ESB's personnel
strength would consist of forty-three (43) Officers and Warrant Officers and five-hundred and twenty (520) Enlisted Men for construction
incident to Operation "Sandstone",
At this time General GQ was
designated as Atoll Commander for Joint Task Force 7 and, in addition,
Commander of the Army Task Group 7.2.
