Brookhaven National Laboratory In order to convey to the people of Rongelap and Utirik the sense that the BNL team is truly interested in not only the health of the people but is also respectful of customs and of their counsel and advice in these matters which directly affect them, 1, it is recommended that: Prior to the survey, through the District Administrator of the Marshall Islands District, the BNL team should ask the permission of the people of the islands to make the examination. 2. Permission by the magistrates and councils of the islands should be asked in order to hold an island meeting for the purposes of explaining results from the last visit and to answer questions. 3, During such a meeting, the BNL team should ask the people if they would like to have an island party. Assuming that the people want to have the party, they should be encouraged to provide some local food breadfruit).
