By a joint memorandum dated 2 July 1954, subject as a Chief of Staff, US Army, Chief of Naval Operations, and Chief 4@f Staff, US dir Force, designated the Armed Forces Special Weapons Projqct (AFSWP) as the Department of Defense agency to participate with the Atdmi Commission in determining what atomic weapons test informationfand results of supporting research projects should be transmitted to the Fdderal Civil Defense Administration (FCDA) to assist that agency in civil ddfense planning.
