7 aossag Pome Ma | 13 August 1969 SECOND AMENDMENT TO MEMORANDUM OF LNDERSTANDING SUBJECT: cleanup of Bikini Atoll REFERENCE: Memorandum of Understanding, subject as above, dated 29 April 1969 Based on additional information obtained through further reconnaissance and consultation with Mr. Chuji Chutaro changes to the referenced memorandum are indicated. The signers of the amendment agree to the following adtitions and deletions to the original memorandum 2s once amended, 1. paragraph A.k. Change to read: Metal materials: All metal that emits radioactivity above maximum permitted under AEC guidelines shall be removed from islands and placed in the water (deep-sixed) at a location at Least one mile from the closest shoreline and where the depth is at least 25 fathoms. All other metal with exception of useable roofing material, lead bricks and copper wire shall be deep-sixed or buried with a minimum of two feet earth cover. 2, Paragraph 8.2.a. Add subparagraph (8); Three boat hulls lagoon reef to remain as they are. 3. Paragraph 3. 3b. Change to read: Aggregate viles southwest of camp area may be used for construction on Bikini Atoll otherwise leave as is, Add: 4, Paragraph 10. Delete: Baker (Bokanejen), add; Able (Bokbata). Buoy on beach to be left as is. S. Paragravh ll, Delete last sentence: cover and berm, Remove and spread dirt 6, Paragraph 13.
