Planning Directive (NTS-4-11-61) Mars

This Directive written after testing had
been resumed in 1961 is issued to
provide guidance and information on
the responsibilities and planning for
Marshmellow which is being consider
ed as part of Ivanhoe. The test
for the DOD has two major purposes.
First of all, it is a weapons effects
wt and includes a series of DOD spon
sored measurements which have long
een identified under the DCD progra
m 800 and are related to low energy
x-ray flux. The source, a

constructed in the Oak Springs ‘lurr :orm
ation in Area 16. The second
major involvement is in Vela Uniform wher

Marshmellow is a continuation of the
DOD diagnostic experiment named
Jericho, which was suspended at the
start of the moratorium.
