SIKINI AND RONGELAP PEOPLES
S8:CLD
The natives ef the stell of Bikini were semeved fren the atell
prior te Operation CROSSROADS in 1946, ‘They heve never been
returned to their aative atell. They were tenperarily placed
en cous other atell, the name of which I am snsble te recall,
and were finally placed on Ujelang end Kili Isiands well to
the south but in the Marshall Islands. ‘They received no
perficular fallout frem any ef the weapons tests.
On the other hand, the Rongelapese were on the Island of Rengelap
and some of the people were on Ailinginse on Narch 1, 1954 (BRAVO
Event). ‘The 64 on Rongelap received approximstely 75r external
gemma dose; the 18 on Ailinginae received 69r external gamna dese;
and the 157 netives on the Atoll of Utirik received approxzinustely
lér external gaume dosa. On the Atoll ef Rongerik there were 31
American military and weather personnel who received approximately
SOr external gaums dose. To the best of my knowledge wo other
populated islands received any wusual amowat of fallout frou
weapons tests.
Bongerik Atoll is ebout 150 miles east ef Bikini. Ailingisse is
roughly 75 miles from Bikini. Rongelap is 100 miles and Utirik
Atoll is approximstely 300 ailes from Bikiai. All are pretty much
of en easterly direction.
