During the momths of June to October, 1954,
I undertook a special project for Dr. Pail Pearson
of the Atomic Energy Jommission in the Trust Territory of the

\

Pacific Islands.

The arrangements were made in May between Mr. Eisenbdud of
the AEC New York Operations Office, Dr. Paul Pearson of the AEC,

Mr. Harold Coolidge of the Pacific Science Board, and I.
In
essence the project involved my obtaining fish, plankton, coral
and water samples at definite localities in the Mariannas and

Caroline Islands for study at the New York Operations Office.

It was agreed that the AEC would send certain supplies that were
to have been shipped in June to Suam and xoror.
Unfortunately,
these supplies did not arrive in Suam until September.
No bills
of lading or notice was sent ahead of their arrival and it was
only by accident that the shipments were discovered in October,
far too late to be utilized in the field work.

However, we did the best we could and the sample material
requested by the AFC is now at Stanford University, as well as

the Geiger counters and the data obtained with their use.
would like to know what should be done with them.

We

Considering the confusion encountered when last week I phoned

the Biology Branch of AEC,

trying to

“ind out what was the next

step to be taken, I am wondering whetner the AEC is still interested in this material.
If not, a frank answer would be ap-

preciated since it will take time and effort to repack the natural
history specimena for shipment from Stanford.
If the AEC is in-.
terested, we would appreciate receiving shipping instructions and=
when further arrangements are made--finds to cover the packing,
containers, and shipping costs.
