Project 2.4 - Decontamination and Protection - J. C. Maloney
OBJECTIVES
To study the contamination of various types of building
surfaces
exposed at various orientations to the fallout.
To study the effectiveness of various decontamination procelures,
and thus obtain data on the radiological recovery of military installations constructed from the tested types of material.
INSTRUMUNTATION
Panels of the various types of building materials were mounted
on a structure so as to present various orientations to the fallout.

Evaluation was to be carried out at Parry, where various decon~
tamination methods were to be used on the panels.
The effectiveness
of decontamination was to be assessed by survey and some reziochemical

Due to insufficient contamination from veMME (FLATHEAD), it
was decided to leave the panel assembly on the YAG-39.
On the YAG-40,
only the panels on the front face reccived enough contamination to
warrant experimentation,
Due to the difficulty in manipulating the canvas covers protecting
the panels on the two structures, it was decided to forego the pre- and
post-shot surface covering.
Due to the apparent low decontamination efficiency of low and high
pressure water hosing, it was decided to forego these techniques.
