LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING The purpose of this letter is to establish an understanding of the general responsibilities of the Atomic Energy Commission and the Defense Nuclear Agency during each party's survey of Eniwetok Atoll, i.e,, the radiological survey being conducted by NVOO of the AEC and the engineering survey being conducted by DNA. To accomplish the radiological survey and the engineering survey in an expeditious and cooperative manner, the following responsibilities of DNA and the AEC are understood, Defense Nuclear Agency a, Gather information for planning any cleanup of Eniwetok. This will necessarily include an engineering survey. b. For a period of time as mutually agreed on by AEC and DNA, act as the single point of contact with the Department of Defense to provide through the assets of the Department of Defense: 1. Air and sea logistics incident to the surveys. 2. Communications support. 3. Base support at the Atoll to include but not limited to fueling, housing, medical support, explosive ordnance disposal support, vehicles, boats and storage space, 4. Special mission assets such as helicopters and boats for specialized portions of the survey.
