Dr. ©. Dunhan ju July 25, 1957 Use of present shower-room facilities on board the LST would be adequate for setting up the decontamination and change station necessary for preparing personnel for measurement, Radiochemical urine analyses could be carried out at the Walter Reed Arny Institute ef Research as in the past. 2e Personnel: Dr. James S. Robertson, Medical Department, B.NeLe has agreed to participate in the operation and will supervise the measurementse The Naval Medical Research Institute has tentatively agreed to allow Mr. Maynard Eicher to participate again. analyzere His talents will be invaluable in operating the Extimated Costs: a) Two, 100~channel analyzers at $9,000 Cache .eeeecceehlS 000 b) One 8" diameter by 4" thick Sodium Iodide..... levee ne Thallium activated CTYStaleccccccesccccccceccveces 4,200 c) Two 5" photomiltiplyer tubes and one preamplifyer.. a) Xeray Standeccvccsccesccccccccsccesscsecceesseesece 400 500 e) Two dehumidifyers at $100 Cachocercsccccvccsccccesse 200 g) Cost of fabrication of wooden room and examining h) Contingencyecenesscceceseerc00 000s 00es ee cel ele 008 teete f) Cost of fabrication of steel chamber..... weer ects (Steel plus Labor) scccccccceccceccccgcdcscccccces 13 000 chair (materials plus Labor) esccccccccccsessecsee Total 400 $40,000 (Estimates for costs on the two personnel involved will be submitted with the basic proposal.) It is understood from the planning and estimate division of the New York Naval Shipyard that the fabrication of the steel chamber could be done in about 2 months and work could probably be started around September or October and could Sbbisil be completed in time to arrive at Pearl Harbor probably by January or early February. Such action would necessitate early approval by the Navy (at least verbally until formal approval could be written) for 1) use of an LST in March 1958 for 3-4 weeks and 2) permission for fabrication of the steel chamber at the New York Naval Shipyard, shipment to Pearl Harbor via Naval vessel and installation on board the LST at Pearl.
