407788 Grant No: Grantee: Title: DE-FG05-92£H89138 National Academy of Sciences Radiological Safety in the Marshal] Islands The Dept. of Energy requested the National Research Council (NRC) to establish a committee to assist the Department in its evaluatipns of the radiological safety of the Marshall Islands, particularly Rongelab Atoll. Some of these islands were contaminated with radioactive materia lf during nuclear weaspons tests conducted from 1946 to 1958. Because questions concerning the safe habitation of these islands by the native peqple have not been settled, the Dept. seeks a source of advice concerning several safety issues relating to the potential consequences of living and farm ng on these islands.
