A talk on respirators was also given to Group GMX-5, The respirator program of CMR-1l is now being reviewed and, in the near future, a similar review will be made of respirator requirements at other sites, particularly in CMR Building, Sigma Building, and at DP East. Methods of assuring proper respirator fit are now being studied and will include work in the H-5 laboratories as well as inquiries on methods currently being used in industry. K.Miscellaneous The educational program regarding the safe use of solvents is progres- sing satisfactorily. Two drums of Vythene (methyl chloroform) have been ordered for issuance by Chemical Stock. The Shops Department and other large users of carbon tetrachloride have found Vythene to be a satisfactory substitute. In addition, the Group is now engaged in the identification of the constituents 2 of 18 trade name solvents carried at SM-30 general stock. Analyses have been completed on "Lightning" paint remover which was found to contain 32% benzene. Other paint removers are also being analyzed. Assistance has been given to the Los Alamos High School on a project involving the use of radioactive tracer materials.
