THE PROBLEM
1. To consider the test schedules for Calendar Year 1958
and the requirements for expenditure of special nucleamaterials
for the tests involved,
SUMMARY

2, At Meeting 1313 on November 6, 1957, the Commission con-

sidered AEC 952/19 (Test Activities for Calendar Year 1958) and
a. Approved conducting Operation HARDTACK, a series
of nuclear tests at the Eniwetok Proving Ground,

commencing on or about April 15, 1958;
to

b. Approved the proposed test program in Appendix "B"
AEC 952/19;

c,. Noted that the proposed test program in Appendix "BN

to AEC 952/19 included the firing of two or three lowyield underground tests at the Nevada Test Site in
the fall of 1958 after the end of HARDTACK;
d. Noted that the test schedule for Operation
HARDTACK would be given to the Commission as soon
as it is firm, and that the Commission would be

kept informed of changes to the schedule;

e. Noted that Department of Defense comments on and
support
ofthe

test operation would be requested by

letter to the Military Liaison Committee;

f. Noted that Presidential approval of the plans
for Operation HARDTACK would be requested by letter
after receiving the comments of the DOD;
