Dear Bill:

This is to let you know that the Marshallese arrived safely and
we are proceeding with the examinations. Next Monday we will have
a meeting of consultants to decide about surgery in Boston.

I

appreciate very much the splendid help that you and Bill Streenan
are furnishing in this project.
I am enclosing copies of two letters which I received from
the islands that might be of interest to you in regard to the

Amata Kabua situation.

I think that Amata was probably peeved

about our criticism of his ship. I would be anxious to hear from
you in regard to Bill Streenan's visit to the islands.
Recently I was on the AEC Committee which met in Washington
to decide about the safety of returning the Bikini people. I under-

stood that there would be a White House release any time now concerning

the favorable results of our conference in regard to the return of the
people.

As you know we will probably be involved since it would be

necessary for us to maintain checks on their internal body burden of
radioisotopes once they were returned to Bikini. I will keep you
informed about this matter. With best regards.
Sincerely,
an
=
