: Enolesed are the results we obtained on the last okipment of paint samples. |
Results are in actual disintegrations per minute. Both beta and alpha |
results have been eerrected fer geometry and ceunter efficiency,

These samples were analysed as fellows:
The surface area ef the various paint fraguents were measured with a

planimeter in erder to give us @ relation between total counts and eurface

area.

The samples were then ground and weighed in order to establieh

Gisintegrations per gram. ‘The samples were then digested with 4 BH HCl]
and the selution filtered. A solution was then made up to volume, ® small
aliquet plated direetly fer beta counting and another aliquot.extracted for
alpha activity by the oupferronm precedure.

These samples containing a large

amount ef iron were analysed for alpha activity by carrying the plutonium

directly with the lanthanum fluoride precipitation.

These analyses were dene with Somewhat greater oare than the first group of

samples yeu sent me.

I am enclosing four copies ef the revults,

You oan give

@ copy to Capt. Waleh and send one to Commander Harria if yeu ‘think it
advisable to de se.

Sincerely yours,’
