483616 UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR TRUST TERRITORY OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS COMMERCIAL OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER CABLE ADDRESS SAIPAN, MARIANA ISLANDS 96950 HICOTT SAIPAN OCT24 1968 © Mr, William A, Bonnet, Manager Honolulu Area Office U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Honolulu, Hawaii Dear Mr. Bonnet: As I believe you may be aware, the High Commissioner's staff is busily seeking to put together a consolidated budget estimate on the costs that would be involved in the rehabilitation of Bikini atoll. This necessarily involves the expense of certain clean-up activities, both of radiological materials and of non~radiological structures and debris. In September, Mr. Norwood addressed a letter to Mr. Carter of Holmes and Narver, Inc. requesting his estimate of costs entailed in this aspect of the rehabilitation program. Recently, we have been advised by Holmes and Narver's general manager, that these estimates were prepared and submitted to your office in Honolulu for transmittal to the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, To complete our overall planning here, I wish to request two copies of these estimates, one for our use at Trust Territory Headquarters and the second set to be sent directly to the High Commissioner, Mr. W.R.Norwocd, in care of the Office of Territories, Department of Interior, Washington. Mr. Norwood, we understand, expects to be in Washington during the latter part of the week of October 21 to attend budget hearings, and would, I know, very much appreciate this courtesy. Both copies are needed as SOOn as possible, ~ Sincerely yours, } i |, Nain — ‘ \-, oF f fe,(Mare ee Martin P. Mangan | Deputy High Commissioner REPOSITORY Yo 70.
