Conard Medical Department Brookhaven National Laboratory Associated Universities Inc. Upton, L.I., N.Y. 11973 Dear Dr. Conard: Thank you for taking the time from what must be a very busy schedule to provide for the Committee a rough summary of the survey. I would also like to ask for your further assistance regarding ~ two matters. The first concerns the $16,000 which you said you had requested for the people of Utirik, for their inconve- nience. tA It was my understanding that the AEC had approved this Money and it had been sent to the Trust Territory via the Department of the Interior. A check with the Distad's Office and the Finance Officer in the Marshall Islands District shows no such money. A further inquiry today with the Department of ‘lealth Services and the Director of Finance of the Trust Territory here on Ssipan also yields no informaticn as to the whereabouts or Status of this money. Consequently, I wonder if you could contact someone in the AEC who knows about this sum and its disposition. The Director of Finance, Mr. Ronald Peterson suggested that it may have been approved by the AEC, but that it had never been requested by either the Trust Territory or the Department of the Interior. Please understand that this is not a request by the Committee for the money, but rather a request to know what is the status of the money.
